Popular Nigerian singer Burna Boy is up for a Grammy award after his African Giant album received a nomination.

The latest news comes just hours after concert organisers in South Africa cancelled the Africa Unite concert after facing backlash over the musician’s involvement of the event.

The “Omo” hit-maker came under fire last week for announcing his performance at the concert after previously vowing to never step foot in South Africa again during the xenophobic attacks in September.

Many accused the concert as being financially driven while concert organisers defended the move stating the event was simply an effort to Unite Africans.

But it seems the African Giant has had the last laugh as both fans and fellow musicians congratulated the musician on his nomination.

A convicted fraudster who is currently serving a 24-year prison sentence is accused of pulling off a $1 million (£773,000) scam from a maximum security prison.

An initial investigation by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found Hope Olusegun Aroke had access to the internet and a phone – all of which are banned in Kirikiri prison.

The EFCC claims the scam was exposed after they received a tip-off which revealed Mr Aroke was admitted to a hospital which he left to stay in hotels and attend functions.

The investigation also revealed Mr Aroke had access to his wife’s bank account which he used to easily transfer funds.

Shocked Nigerian’s are questioning how Aroke was able to mastermind the crime from behind the bars of a maximum security prison.
